Getting work done
Posted by jbalaco on July 5, 2008
Just taking a quick break from EW work. Yay – my access was not deleted so I am able to actually get some work done today. It’s the perfect day to work too – rainy! The only thing that would make it better would be to work from the couch. But, Sunburst Cafe (the best neighborhood cafe!) is not a bad place to work either. Pretty good coffee, the workers know me now, and I love that they listen to the NPR station that plays old music like Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. I guarantee that anyone who comes to visit will get to experience this place at least once, if not multiple times (just ask my aunts who I dragged here for several breakfasts as well as lunch and coffee).
Yesterday was a fantastic day. I slept in (I’ve been so tired since returning from CA) until 11 and then headed downtown for the concert. I saw one of the Waterfalls and it was kind of anti-climatic. I’d love to see them at night (I think they are lit up!?) I also saw the Statue of Liberty and felt very patriotic. I’ll post pictures to Flickr next week. I got one of the best seats for the concert – leaning against a tree not too far from the stage. I could have been closer but then no tree. The Feelies were great. I will have to get their CDs from the library when back in Ann Arbor (Gasp, I don’t have a library card this summer!). Supposedly, they reunited for this concert which is amazing. Sonic Youth was (is that singular or plural?) fantastic also. Although you hear their name often, I don’t think most people could name one of their songs. I even have a good amount of their music on my iPod and still couldn’t tell you the names of any of it. They are definitely innovative in what they play, put on a great concert and did 2 encores.
It was overcast all day and did sprinkle a little during the concert but nothing serious. Decided to go home after concert and put on jeans because it was that weird chilly but muggy temperature and knew that if stayed in my dress I’d be cold for the fireworks. Instead of trekking to the west side (my original plan) I decided to go to the much closer East River. What a great idea! The Macy’s fireworks barges were right there and I was able to watch them from the FDR. Of course, the rain decided to come right before the fireworks started but it did not seem to dampen anyone’s enjoyment. They were fabulous and I’m glad that I stayed closer to home.
Well, no rest for interns. . .I should get back to work. Two whole days to work this weekend. Until next time.
